Target Information
EP402R is a major viral glycoprotein and a key virulence factor of the African Swine Fever Virus (ASFV). It is named CD2v due to its significant structural similarity to the host cellular adhesion molecule CD2, found on T-cells and Natural Killer (NK) cells. EP402R is localized on the outer envelope of the mature virion and the plasma membrane of infected cells. It is the primary protein responsible for the hemadsorption (HAD) phenomenon, where swine erythrocytes (red blood cells) adhere to the surface of infected macrophages, forming "rosettes." This mechanism is essential for viral dissemination within the host and for evading the immune system.
