Target Information

SLEV NS3 is a multifunctional protein essential for St. Louis Encephalitis Virus replication. Its N-terminal domain acts as a chymotrypsin-like serine protease, which, when complexed with the NS2B cofactor, cleaves the viral polyprotein into functional units. The C-terminal domain functions as an RNA helicase and NTPase, unwinding double-stranded RNA during genome replication. Due to its indispensable role in the viral life cycle, NS3 is a primary target for the development of direct-acting antiviral drugs.
