Target Information
Rat lipopolysaccharide binding protein (LBP) is a secreted acute-phase glycoprotein of the BPI/LBP family, a core mediator of Gram-negative bacterial immune recognition. It features a conserved N-terminal LPS-binding domain, a C-terminal lipid transfer domain, and structural motifs critical for ligand interaction and protein stability. It localizes to rat plasma and extracellular fluids, with high expression in hepatocytes and negligible levels in non-hepatic tissues. The protein mediates LPS transfer to CD14 and TLR4/MD-2 complex, with conserved motifs for binding to bacterial lipopolysaccharides. Rat LBP shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct binding affinity differentiating it from bactericidal/permeability-increasing protein (BPI).
