Target Information

Rat iduronate-2-sulfatase (I2S) is a lysosomal hydrolase belonging to the sulfatase enzyme family. It features a conserved catalytic domain with an active-site formylglycine residue, a lysosomal targeting sequence and a substrate-binding pocket critical for structural integrity. It localizes exclusively to lysosomes, with tissue-specific expression in rat liver, kidney and spleen, with minimal levels in skeletal muscle and brain. The protein mediates glycosaminoglycan sulfation modification, with conserved motifs for substrate recognition. Rat I2S shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct substrate affinity differentiating it from related sulfatase family members.
