Target Information

Rat complement component 7 (C7) is a secreted glycoprotein encoded by the C7 gene in Rattus norvegicus, mapped to chromosome 3. It belongs to the complement component family, featuring conserved complement control protein domains, a membrane attack complex perforin-like region and multiple cysteine-rich motifs critical for function. It localizes to systemic circulation and interstitial fluid, with ubiquitous expression in rat tissues and consistent secretion by hepatocytes. The protein is a core component for membrane attack complex assembly, with conserved structural sites for binding to other complement components. Rat C7 shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct interaction specificity differentiating it from C5, C6 and other terminal complement components.
