Target Information
Mouse macrophage expressed gene 1 protein (MPEG1) is a transmembrane protein encoded by the Mpeg1 gene in Mus musculus, mapped to chromosome 17. It belongs to the perforin-like protein family, featuring a conserved N-terminal pore-forming domain, multiple glycine-rich repeats and a C-terminal transmembrane region. It localizes to cell membrane and lysosomal compartments, with tissue-specific expression in mouse macrophages, microglia and other myeloid lineage cells, with negligible levels in non-immune tissues. The protein mediates membrane interaction and intracellular vesicle trafficking, with conserved motifs critical for structural integrity and oligomerization. Mouse MPEG1 shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct cell-type distribution differentiating it from other perforin-like family members.
