Target Information
Bovine heart-type fatty acid binding protein (FABP3, H-FABP) is a 133-residue, 14.5 kDa cytosolic chaperone composed of ten antiparallel β-strands and two α-helices forming a clam-shaped pocket that accommodates long-chain fatty acids. The internal cavity is lined by conserved arginine and tyrosine residues that coordinate the carboxylate and hydrophobic tail of the ligand. Exclusively expressed in cardiac and skeletal muscle, FABP3 localizes to cytosol and mitochondria-associated membranes. Antibodies raised against full-length bovine FABP3 detect native, acyl-bound and oxidized forms with negligible cross-reactivity to liver or adipocyte FABP isoforms, enabling selective immunoblot and immunohistochemical visualization in bovine cardiac homogenates and serum.
