Rat Ciliary Neurotrophic Factor (CNTF) is a neurotrophic cytokine that supports the survival and differentiation of various neuronal populations. It acts through the CNTF receptor complex, which includes the CNTFRα subunit and the signal-transducing subunits gp130 and LIFR. CNTF promotes neuronal survival, axonal growth, and myelination, particularly in the peripheral nervous system. This cytokine is also involved in regulating immune responses and supporting muscle function.
