Cyproheptadine is a first-generation antihistamine with additional antiserotonergic and anticholinergic properties. It binds to and antagonizes H1 receptors on smooth muscle cells, inhibiting histamine-mediated vasodilation and allergic responses. The compound also modulates serotonin receptors and muscarinic receptors, contributing to its appetite-stimulating and anti-allergic effects. Cyproheptadine is widely used in veterinary medicine to manage allergic conditions and appetite loss.
