Target Information
Doramectin is a member of the macrocyclic lactone class of anthelmintics, targeting the nervous systems of parasites. It binds to glutamate-gated chloride channels in the neurons and muscle cells of nematodes and arthropods, increasing the permeability of these channels to chloride ions. This results in hyperpolarization of the nerve and muscle cells, leading to paralysis and death of the parasites. Doramectin is highly effective against a wide range of endoparasites and ectoparasites in livestock. Its specific action on parasite nervous systems makes it an attractive target for antibody development to enhance its therapeutic efficacy and specificity in veterinary medicine.
