Target Information
Rabbit S100 calcium binding protein A8 (S100A8) is a cytoplasmic calcium-binding protein of the S100 family, a core mediator of innate immunity and inflammatory cascade activation. It features two conserved EF-hand calcium-binding motifs, a hydrophobic interface for heterodimerization with S100A9, and structural domains critical for ligand interaction and signaling transduction. It localizes to the cytoplasm of rabbit neutrophils, monocytes and mucosal epithelial cells, with negligible levels in non-immune and quiescent tissues. The protein mediates leukocyte chemotaxis and cytokine secretion, with conserved motifs for binding to Toll-like receptors and cytoskeletal components. Rabbit S100A8 shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct pro-inflammatory specificity differentiating it from S100A12 and S100B.
