Target Information
Cephapirin is a first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used primarily in veterinary medicine for the treatment of mastitis in lactating and dry dairy cows, as well as uterine infections in cattle. It is a significant concern for animal-derived food safety, particularly regarding milk and bovine tissues. Because it is often administered via intramammary infusion, strict withdrawal periods must be observed to ensure residues do not exceed Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs). Its presence in the food supply is monitored to prevent allergic reactions in sensitive consumers and to mitigate the broader public health risk of antimicrobial resistance development.
