Target Information

Arp4 is a surface-anchored protein of Streptococcus pyogenes (Group A Streptococcus) that specifically binds the Fc region of human Immunoglobulin A (IgA). By sequestering host IgA, Arp4 inhibits the recruitment of phagocytes and interferes with the classical complement pathway, effectively shielding the bacteria from mucosal immunity. This interaction is a sophisticated immune evasion strategy that facilitates bacterial colonization and persistence in the upper respiratory tract and skin.
