Target Information
Mouse Versican Core Protein (Vcan) is a large chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan with multiple roles in development and disease. It is a key component of the extracellular matrix (ECM) and interacts with hyaluronan, fibronectin, and various cytokines. Versican is involved in cell adhesion, migration, and proliferation, and it regulates inflammation by influencing leukocyte trafficking and activation. In cancer, Versican is upregulated and contributes to tumor progression by promoting ECM remodeling and supporting tumor cell invasion. It also plays a role in the nervous system, where it affects axon regeneration and glial cell development. In the context of tissue injury, Versican accumulates in the ECM and can be cleaved by ADAMTS proteases to generate pro-inflammatory fragments. Its expression is regulated by cytokines such as TGF-β, and it has multiple isoforms (V0-V4) with distinct functions in different tissues.
