Target Information

A42R is a highly conserved profilin-like protein in the Monkeypox virus that plays a pivotal role in modulating the host cell cytoskeleton. Unlike cellular profilins that regulate actin polymerization, A42R is essential for the intracellular mature virus (IMV) formation and efficient viral morphogenesis. It interacts with viral structural proteins to facilitate the assembly of the viral envelope. Its unique structural features make it a significant target for studying viral maturation pathways and developing diagnostic assays to differentiate orthopoxviruses.
