Target Information

Sheep galectin 1 (GAL1) is a secreted β-galactoside-binding lectin of the galectin family, a core mediator of cell adhesion, immune modulation and tissue homeostasis. It features a conserved carbohydrate recognition domain (CRD) for glycan binding, a cysteine-rich motif for homodimerization, and structural regions critical for ligand specificity and signaling. It localizes to the extracellular matrix and cytoplasm of sheep immune cells, epithelial tissues and mammary glands, with negligible levels in mature muscle and adipose tissues. The protein mediates leukocyte trafficking and cell-cell interaction, with conserved motifs for binding to glycoproteins and glycolipids. Sheep GAL1 shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct tissue distribution differentiating it from GAL3 and GAL8.
