Target Information
Rat microfibrillar-associated protein 2 (MFAP2) is a 183-residue secreted glycoprotein composed of an N-terminal signal peptide, a central array of six tandem calcium-binding EGF-like repeats, and a C-terminal RGD motif that engages αVβ3 integrin. The polypeptide forms antiparallel disulfide-linked dimers via cysteines flanking the EGF array, yielding a 42 kDa species under non-reducing conditions. Constitutively expressed in aortic media, lung alveoli and dermal connective tissue, MFAP2 localizes to elastin-associated microfibrils and interelastic connections. Antibodies raised against full-length recombinant rat MFAP2 detect native, glycosylated and dimeric forms with negligible cross-reactivity to MFAP1, MFAP3 or fibrillin-1, enabling selective immunoblot and immunohistochemical visualization in rat tissue homogenates and sections.
