Target Information
Mouse retbindin is a retinal-specific, calcium-binding protein with conserved EF-hand motifs, a core component of retinal photoreceptor and bipolar cell function. It features two high-affinity Ca²⁺-binding domains critical for conformational switching, a hydrophobic N-terminal signal peptide for subcellular targeting, and a C-terminal domain for protein-protein interaction. It localizes predominantly to the outer plexiform layer and photoreceptor inner segments of mouse retina, with negligible expression in non-ocular tissues. The protein mediates calcium-dependent signaling in visual transduction pathways, with conserved structural elements differentiating it from other retinal calcium sensors.
