Target Information

Mouse hemoglobin alpha 1 (HBA1) is a globin polypeptide subunit that heterotetramerizes with HBB subunits to form functional hemoglobin (Hb) in erythrocytes, a core mediator of oxygen and carbon dioxide transport. It features a conserved globin fold with a heme-binding pocket, hydrophobic amino acid motifs for subunit interaction, and structural domains critical for allosteric oxygen binding. It localizes exclusively to the cytoplasm of mouse red blood cells, with negligible expression in non-hematopoietic tissues. The protein mediates gas exchange between tissues and lungs, with conserved residues for heme iron coordination. Mouse HBA1 shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct oxygen affinity differentiating it from HBA2 and embryonic globins.
