Mouse GLO1 is a cytoplasmic metabolic enzyme structured around a conserved metal-dependent catalytic core. It maintains stable homodimer folding and intact substrate-binding pockets under physiological conditions, widely distributed within the cytosol of nearly all somatic cell types. Its fully intracellular soluble form and unique metal-binding active site architecture distinguish it from membrane-anchored surface ligands, secreted circulating signaling proteins and intranuclear transcription factors that carry unrelated multi-domain assemblies and distinct confined subcellular localization patterns.
