Target Information

Mouse Glucokinase (GCK) is a key enzyme in glucose metabolism, catalyzing the phosphorylation of glucose to glucose-6-phosphate (G6P) in a reaction dependent on glucose concentration. Unlike other hexokinases, GCK has a low affinity for glucose and is not inhibited by its product, G6P. This unique property allows GCK to function as a glucose sensor, regulating insulin secretion in pancreatic β-cells and glycogen synthesis in the liver. GCK is also expressed in other tissues, including the intestine, hypothalamus, and adrenal gland, where it contributes to glucose homeostasis.
