Target Information

Bovine matrix Gla protein (MGP) is a 14 kDa secreted γ-carboxyglutamate-rich protein whose five Gla residues and C-terminal serine-phosphorylated tail bind calcium crystals and collagen I, anchoring to vascular and cartilage extracellular matrices. A solvent-exposed 16-aa "KVE" loop (aa 35-50) between the second and third Gla domains folds into a β-hairpin unique among bovine Gla proteins, presenting a conformational epitope preserved after carboxylation and fixation. Affinity-purified antibodies targeting this loop trace native MGP in aortic media, growth-plate cartilage, and tendon insertions, delivering crisp extracellular tracks and single-band clarity on immunoblots with no cross-reaction to osteocalcin or prothrombin.
