Target Information
Canine vascular endothelial growth factor C (VEGF-C) is a secreted glycoprotein of the VEGF family, a core regulator of lymphangiogenesis and vascular remodeling. It features conserved N-terminal VEGF homology domains, a cysteine-knot motif for homodimerization, and a C-terminal prodomain critical for proteolytic activation and receptor binding. It localizes to the extracellular matrix of canine lymphatic endothelial cells, fibroblasts and tumor stromal cells, with negligible levels in quiescent vascular tissues. The protein mediates VEGFR-2 and VEGFR-3 activation, with conserved motifs for binding to heparan sulfate proteoglycans. Canine VEGF-C shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct angiogenic specificity differentiating it from VEGF-A and VEGF-B.
