Target Information
Nicarbazin is an anticoccidial drug used as a feed additive in broiler chickens to prevent coccidiosis, a parasitic disease. The drug is a complex of two components: 4,4'-dinitrocarbanilide (DNC) and 2-hydroxy-4,6-dimethylpyrimidine (HDP). The main active and residual component is DNC. When chickens are fed nicarbazin, DNC and its metabolites can accumulate in their tissues, especially in the liver and kidneys. To ensure that chicken meat is safe for human consumption, a mandatory withdrawal period must be observed before the birds are slaughtered.
