Specifications
Target Information
Porcine C-peptide is a 31-residue, single-chain polypeptide flanked by dibasic cleavage sites within proinsulin, released equimolar with insulin upon prohormone convertase action. The sequence contains a centrally located tyrosine, three cysteines forming one intramolecular disulfide, and an amidated C-terminal lysine that distinguishes it from rodent homologs. Lacking bioactivity, the peptide circulates at low nanomolar concentrations, bound minimally to plasma proteins. Antibodies raised against synthetic porcine C-peptide recognize the intact molecule and its major fragments with negligible cross-reactivity to insulin, proinsulin, or IGF-1, enabling direct measurement in porcine serum, tissue extracts, and culture media.
