Target Information

Acephate is a systemic organophosphate insecticide used on a variety of crops to control sucking and biting insects. When these crops, particularly fodder crops, are used as animal feed, residues of acephate and its more toxic metabolite, methamidophos, can transfer to the animals. This can lead to the presence of these pesticide residues in animal-derived products such as meat, milk, and eggs, making it a critical food safety concern.
