Target Information

In mice, Corticoliberin (Crh), also known as corticotropin-releasing hormone, is a key neuropeptide that plays a central role in the stress response by activating the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. It is primarily synthesized in the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus and triggers the release of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) from the pituitary, which in turn stimulates glucocorticoid secretion from the adrenal glands. Beyond the HPA axis, Crh acts as a neuromodulator in various brain regions, influencing behaviors related to anxiety and stress. Crh is also involved in immune regulation, with effects observed in peripheral tissues such as the intestines and spleen. Dysregulation of the Crh system has been linked to stress-related disorders, including depression and anxiety, making Crh and its receptors potential targets for therapeutic interventions. Additionally, Crh has been implicated in gastrointestinal disorders, where it affects intestinal barrier function and inflammation. Research indicates that Crh antagonists may offer therapeutic benefits in conditions like inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome.
