The fetal liver is the primary hematopoietic organ during late embryonic development, possessing unique biological activity. Research indicates that fetal liver stromal cells, similar to bone marrow stromal cells, have multipotent differentiation capabilities and can improve symptoms in mouse models of renal failure and diabetes. Rabbit fetal liver stromal cells were immortalized by lentiviral transduction carrying the SV40 gene, granting them unlimited proliferative capacity. The SV40 T-antigen can alter terminal cell differentiation, induce cells into S-phase, and bypass normal cell cycle checkpoints, thereby achieving immortalization.
