Rat TLR8 is a type I transmembrane pattern recognition receptor with abundant extracellular leucine-rich repeat domains that retain stable protein conformation under physiological conditions. It mainly distributes within endosomal compartments of myeloid immune cell populations. Its membrane-anchored multi-domain sensing structure and immune-specific abundance differentiate it from soluble secreted cytokines, cytoplasmic scaffolding adaptors and chromatin-interacting nuclear transcriptional regulators with simplified single-domain assemblies and broad expression across non-immune somatic tissues.
