Target Information
Rat laminin beta 2 (LAMB2) is a secreted glycoprotein subunit of the laminin family, a core structural component of basement membranes and mediator of cell-matrix adhesion. It features a conserved N-terminal laminin-type G domain for integrin binding, a central coiled-coil region for heterotrimer assembly with alpha and gamma laminin chains, and a C-terminal domain critical for structural stability. It localizes predominantly to the basement membranes of rat renal glomeruli, neuromuscular junctions and retinal tissues, with negligible expression in loose connective tissues. The protein mediates cell adhesion and signaling, with conserved motifs for interacting with cell surface receptors and extracellular matrix proteins. Rat LAMB2 shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct tissue specificity differentiating it from LAMB1 and LAMB3.
