Target Information

Mouse Lipase A, also known as lysosomal acid lipase or cholesterol ester hydrolase, is a key enzyme responsible for the hydrolysis of cholesteryl esters and triglycerides in lysosomes. This enzyme is essential for lipid metabolism and is encoded by the Lipa gene. Defects in this gene can lead to severe lipid storage disorders, such as Wolman disease and cholesteryl ester storage disease. Lysosomal acid lipase is synthesized as a precursor polypeptide and undergoes glycosylation and lysosomal targeting. It plays a crucial role in maintaining cholesterol homeostasis and is involved in various cellular processes, including macrophage activation and lipid mediator synthesis.
