Target Information

Corynebacteria belonging to the diphtheriae species complex (CdSC) are capable of causing diphtheria in humans and have also been reported in companion animals. Corynebacterium diphtheriae is an irregularly staining, Gram-positive, non-motile, non-sporulating, pleomorphic bacillus that may appear slightly curved or club-shaped. This bacterium is a genetically diverse species, with its isolates classified into four biovars: Gravis, Mitis, Intermedius, and Belfanti.
