Target Information

Bone gamma-carboxyglutamate protein, also known as osteocalcin (OCN), is encoded by the BGLAP gene in cattle. It is a small, highly conserved molecule first identified in the mineralized matrix of bone. It is primarily found in the mineralized matrix of bone, especially in association with osteoblasts, the cells responsible for bone formation. Gla residues in OCN allow it to bind effectively with calcium, contributing to the mineralization and strength of the bone matrix.
