Target Information

The Puumala virus (PUUV) is the primary agent responsible for causing hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) in Europe and Russia. It is transmitted by the bank vole (Clethrionomys glareolus). Within its natural reservoir, the PUUV leads to a persistent infection that exhibits minimal symptoms and is transmitted through excretions, as well as via fighting and grooming behavior.
