Target Information
Fibrinogen, the soluble precursor of fibrin, is a key coagulation factor involved in both primary and secondary haemostasis, promoting platelet aggregation and clot formation. It is a large, soluble glycoprotein synthesized by the liver and circulates in the bloodstream in its inactive form. When a blood vessel is injured, fibrinogen undergoes a series of transformations to become fibrin, the insoluble protein that forms the fibrous mesh of a blood clot. Primary fibrinogen deficiency is very rare in dogs.
