The life cycle of Borrelia involves alternating between parasitizing arthropod vectors and mammalian hosts. Borrelia recurrentis is a species of this spirochete bacterium known for causing relapsing fever. Unlike B. recurrentis, which is typically linked to human hosts, all other relapsing fever Borrelia species are transmitted by ticks and utilize non-human animals as host reservoirs.
