Salmonella Typhi (S. Typhi) is a bacterium that infects the intestinal tract and bloodstream, causing a disease known as typhoid fever. As S. Typhi is exclusive to humans, there are limited animal models (apart from higher primates) available to study its pathogenesis and test potential vaccines.
