Target Information
Mouse Matrix Metalloproteinase-19 (Mmp19) is a member of the matrix metalloproteinase family, involved in the degradation of extracellular matrix (ECM) components. It is expressed in various tissues, including vascular smooth muscle cells, myoepithelial cells, and keratinocytes. Mmp19 plays a crucial role in T cell development and immune responses. Mmp19-deficient mice exhibit impaired T cell-mediated immune reactions, reduced proliferation of keratinocytes, and diminished activation of CD8+ T cells. In the context of fibrosis, Mmp19 has a dual role: it promotes fibrosis in the early stages of injury but aids in fibrosis resolution during the healing phase. In cardiovascular diseases, Mmp19 deficiency exacerbates thoracic aortic aneurysm and dissection (TAAD) by promoting the accumulation of aggrecan and phenotypic switching of vascular smooth muscle cells via the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. Mmp19 is also implicated in tumor progression, with its expression associated with increased tumor invasion and angiogenesis. Overall, Mmp19 has diverse functions in tissue remodeling, immune responses, and disease progression.
