Target Information
Rabbit Macrophage Metalloelastase (MMP12), also known as Matrix Metalloproteinase-12, is a macrophage-specific enzyme that degrades various extracellular matrix components, including elastin and laminin. In rabbits, MMP12 is implicated in tissue remodeling and inflammation, playing a role in processes such as atherosclerosis and fibrosis. It is also involved in the degradation of the basement membrane, which can contribute to the progression of diseases like emphysema and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Additionally, MMP12 has been shown to participate in the early stages of atherosclerosis by facilitating the migration of macrophages into the arterial intima and promoting the degradation of elastic fibers. This enzyme's broad substrate specificity and involvement in multiple pathological processes make it a potential target for therapeutic interventions in various inflammatory and degenerative diseases.
