Target Information

Early Growth Response Protein 1 (Egr-1) is a transcriptional regulator that identifies and binds to the DNA sequence 5'-GCG(T/G)GGGCG-3' (EGR-site) located in the promoter region of target genes. It can bind to double-stranded DNA regardless of the cytosine methylation status. In mice, Egr-1 is involved in various functions such as the inflammatory response, angiogenesis, memory and learning, and pancreatitis. It plays a pivotal biological role by influencing the expression of downstream genes. Research on age-related cognitive decline has highlighted the strong association between Egr-1 and cognitive abilities. For instance, in the SAMP10 mouse model, there is a positive correlation between Egr-1 expression levels and memory capabilities, indicating that Egr-1 might enhance cognitive function by regulating neuronal synaptic plasticity.
