Target Information

Neuronal pentraxin-1 (NP1) may play a role in mediating the uptake of synaptic material during synapse remodeling or in facilitating the synaptic clustering of AMPA glutamate receptors at certain excitatory synapses. As a pro-apoptotic protein induced by low potassium levels, NP1 is crucial in the process of neuronal death in the mouse brain. Research indicates that NP1 expression is significantly upregulated under low potassium conditions, and using RNA interference technology to inhibit NP1 expression can reduce cell death. Additionally, in a mouse brain hypoxia-ischemia model, NP1 expression is notably increased in the CA1 and CA3 regions of the hippocampus, suggesting its key role in neuronal damage and death.
