Target Information

Leishmania infantum is responsible for infantile visceral leishmaniasis in the Mediterranean region and Latin America, where it is also known as Leishmania chagasi. This protozoan is transmitted by sand flies of the Phlebotomus species and causes a life-threatening zoonotic condition known as visceral leishmaniasis. In Southern Europe, visceral leishmaniasis affects hundreds of people annually and is regarded as the most significant disease affecting dogs.
