Target Information

Pasteurella is a genus of Gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic bacteria that are nonmotile and pleomorphic, often showing bipolar staining. Many species within this genus are zoonotic pathogens, with humans potentially acquiring infections through bites from domestic animals. In cattle, sheep, and birds, Pasteurella species can lead to life-threatening pneumonia. However, in cats and dogs, Pasteurella is not pathogenic and is typically part of the normal flora in their noses and mouths.
