Target Information

Trichomonas stableri is responsible for causing trichomonosis in birds. These flagellated protozoa inhabit the sinuses, mouth, throat, esophagus, liver, and other organs. T. stableri is markedly smaller in both length and width compared to T. gallinae and is genetically more akin to T. vaginalis than to T. gallinae. In band-tailed pigeons, T. stableri acts as a secondary agent of trichomonosis.
