Target Information

Ehrlichia chaffeensis is a Gram-negative, obligatorily intracellular bacterium belonging to the order Rickettsiales. This zoonotic pathogen is transmitted to humans through the lone star tick, scientifically known as Amblyomma americanum. The primary competent reservoir for E. chaffeensis is recognized to be the white-tailed deer, Odocoileus virginianus.
