Target Information

Bartonella quintana, formerly called Rochalimaea quintana and "Rickettsia quintana", is a bacterium transmitted by the human body louse and is known for causing trench fever. While lice serve as animal vectors, the only known animal reservoir hosts for this bacterium in vivo are humans and some other primates. Bartonella quintana infects endothelial cells and can also invade erythrocytes by attaching and entering with the formation of a large vacuole.
