Target Information

Lyme disease ranks as the most frequently reported vector-borne illness in the United States. It is caused by spirochetal bacteria from the Borreliella genus, which are transmitted to vertebrate hosts through the bites of infected Ixodes ticks. Borreliella mayonii is part of the B. burgdorferi sensu lato (Bbsl) species complex.
