Target Information

Bonamia ostreae is a parasitic rhizarian known for causing lethal infections in shellfish, particularly the European flat oyster (Ostrea edulis). While direct transmission from one host to another is possible, the specific infective form and methods of entry and release are still unknown. Infections in both wild and farmed flat oysters are often deadly, with fatalities typically occurring when the infection reaches its highest intensity.
