Target Information

The genus Borrelia comprises two primary groups: the Lyme Borrelia and the relapsing fever Borrelia. Borrelia afzelii, a species of Borrelia, is endemic to parts of Eurasia and is one of the causative agents of Lyme disease. It is transmitted by hard-bodied ticks of the Ixodes genus, specifically Ixodes ricinus in Europe and Ixodes persulcatus in temperate regions of Asia, and infects various wild mammals in nature.
