Corynebacterium is a genus of Gram-positive aerobic rods, which can be pathogenic but is primarily considered opportunistic, often causing issues when host immunity is compromised or tissue is damaged, rather than acting as a primary pathogen. Corynebacterium cystitidis was first identified in 1978 from isolates obtained from cattle with cystitis.
